BMW China sales surge 31% in April; M-B falls
BMW AG's China sales jumped 31 percent in April year-on-year to 27,197 units, Bloomberg News reports, citing a company spokeswoman.
For the first four months of the year, BMW sales rose 35 percent to 107,211 units.
In China, BMW has been chasing industry leader Audi AG, which enjoyed a strong first quarter. Audi has not yet reported April sales.
Mercedes-Benz, however, says April sales in China declined 11 percent year-on-year to 14,677 units.
Mercedes says sales dropped because the automaker is preparing for the production changeover to the redesigned B class and because it is just starting to launch Chinese production of the GLK compact SUV.
Mercedes noted in a statement that it still expects to boost sales in China more than 10 percent in 2012.
For the first four months, Mercedes has sold 66,005 vehicles in China, up 11 percent year-on-year.
