Suzhou exports 16 mln laptops in 2005
The 15.97 million exported laptops posted a 70.1-percent rise over 2004, while the export value of 10.9 billion U.S. dollars represents a 64.9 percent year-on-year increase
The scenic city of Suzhou in east China's Jiangsu Province, one of the world's leading laptop production centers, reported a surge in laptop export last year, according to statistics from local customs on Friday. The 15.97 million exported laptops posted a 70.1-percent rise over 2004, while the export value of 10.9 billion U.S. dollars represents a 64.9 percent year-on-year increase, the statistics show. The laptops were exported at an average price of 681.9 dollars, 3.4 percent lower than in 2004. Suzhou exported 7.32 million laptops to the European Union and 4.8 million to the United States, which combined to make up 75.9 percent of the total export. Thanks to the fast progress in the city's manufacturing sector, more and more laptop makers have set up their production bases there, which give rise to the surge of laptop export, observers said. And most of laptops were assembled under original equipment manufacturing (OEM) orders and Chinese firms, nevertheless, are still lacking core technologies. |
