Nissan's new Dalian plant to open in 2014, newspaper reports
Nissan Motor Co.'s joint venture with China's Dongfeng Motor Corp. has broken ground on its new assembly plant in the northeast China port city of Dalian, according to local media.
Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co. will launch production at the plant in 2014. Initially it will produce 20,000 vehicles a year, reported Dalian Daily, a Dalian-based newspaper.
The plant will mainly build SUVs. Its annual output will increase to 300,000 vehicles by 2016.
The Dalian plant will become Nissan's fourth joint-venture assembly plant in China.
Nissan already has three plants in Xiangfang in central China's Hubei province, Huadu in south China's Guangdong province and Zhengzhou of north China's Henan province.
Nissan's China sales totaled 755,364 units in 2011, up 21 percent from 2010.
