Infiniti undecided on China production
Nissan Motor Co.'s Infiniti luxury brand has yet to decide whether to build vehicles in China, Infiniti said in a statement.
The statement was issued in response to Chinese media reports that Infiniti had signed an agreement in November with the local government of Dalian to build its vehicles in the northeast China city.
Infiniti's China office said that it has been studying the feasibility of building vehicles in China.
"To shorten the supply chain, integrate its regional products and ward off pressure from foreign exchange trading, Infiniti has long been inclined to achieve local production in regions where it sells products," the office said.
Nissan imports Infiniti vehicles into China. In the first 11 months of 2011, Infiniti sales rose 6 percent year-on-year to 8,925 units, according to LMC Automotive.
