GM to build Chevy Malibu in China this year
General Motors will build the new Chevrolet Malibu in China this year and start selling it in early 2012 to strengthen its presence in China's mid-sized car segment.
Shanghai General Motors Corp., GM's joint venture with SAIC Motor Corp., says the Malibu will be produced at its Jinqiao plant in suburban Shanghai.
The Malibu's China launch in the first three months of 2012 will coincide with its North American launch, according to Shanghai GM.
It will be the fourth mid-sized car to be produced by GM in China. The other three models are the Buick Regal and LaCrosse, and the Chevrolet Epica.
The company has not yet announced the Malibu's price.
