Toyota's China sales rose 8% in October
Toyota Motor Corp.'s sales in China rose 32.5 percent to 81,600 vehicles as the company closed in on its annual sales goal of 900,000 units, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Last year, the Japanese automaker sold 846,000 units. Company spokesman Takanori Yokoi told the Journal. "It's still going to be very close," Yokoi said.
In the first ten months of the year, Toyota sales rose 7.8 percent to 693,000 vehicles.
Toyota's Chinese assembly plants were forced to slow production after the March 11 earthquake disrupted suppliers' shipments of parts. Yokoi told the Journal that vehicle production has recovered.
"We have been able to build up some vehicle stock for sales, and dealers are operating normally in most cases," he said.
