Cummins expands r&d center in Wuhan
Cummins Inc. has completed its expansion of a technical center that will develop diesel engines, electric motors and other components, reports the state-owned China Daily.
The U.S. engine manufacturer spent $33 million (210 million yuan) to expand the facility, which is in Wuhan in central China. The center employs 100 workers.
The center will develop diesels ranging from 2.8 liters to 19 liters, according to China Daily.
Next year, the center will open an emissions testing facility to help Cummins export Chinese-built engines to Europe, Russia, South Korea, Australia and Brazil.
The center, which opened in 2006, is a joint venture between Cummins and Dongfeng Cummins Engine Co. The joint venture can produce up to 230,000 engines annually.
China was Cummins' largest overseas market last year, with revenues of 19.7 billion yuan, according to China Daily.
