U.S. supplier AC Propulsion to provide Foton with EV drivetrains, batteries
AC Propulsion, a Los Angles-based designer of electric vehicles and powertrains, will provide 100 powertrains and battery packs to China's Beiqi Foton Motor Co.
Foton will use the componentry to equip its Midi-E electric car, which will be introduced next year as taxi cabs in Beijing, AC Propulsion said in a statement.
The company claimed the deal is the first of its kind in which a U.S. company supplies major components to a Chinese-built electric vehicle.
The drivetrain and battery packs will be produced by e.motor Advance Corp., AC Propulsion's Beijing-based subsidiary.
Foton, located in suburban Beijing, is China's largest producer of light commercial vehicles. The company also makes a small number of MPVs and small SUVs.
