Toyota to sell plug-ins, EVs in China in 2013, newspaper says
Toyota Motor Corp. plans to introduce electric cars and plug-in vehicles to China in 2013, reports the Shanghai Daily, citing a company executive.
Hiroyoshi Yoshiki, a managing officer of the Japanese automaker, said the introduction of EVs and plug-ins "would provide more options for consumers," the Shanghai Daily said.
Yoshiki did not indicate which models Toyota would introduce. However, he noted that Toyota has been conducting road tests in China of plug-ins and EVs.
The company also is building a $689 million (4.4 billion yuan) r&d center in Changshu, which will develop hybrid-powered vehicles, the Shanghai Daily said.
