Chery hits '11 export goal in just 9 months
Chery Automobile Co., China's largest passenger vehicle exporter, says it exported 122,441 vehicles in the first nine months, up 80 percent year-on-year.
The surge of exports has allowed the company to achieve its original 2011 target of 122,000 units three months ahead of schedule. For the whole year, Chery expects to ship 180,000 vehicles overseas.
Exports to emerging markets have been especially strong. Brazil is Chery's largest export market, followed by Russia and the Ukraine.
Next, the stated-owned automaker plans to start exporting vehicles to Europe after 2015.
In September, a German newspaper reported that Chery had established a 1.5 billion euro (13 billion yuan) joint venture with Israel Corp. The partners reportedly will build three compact models to be sold in China and exported to Europe.
Chery is headquartered in the east China province of Anhui. In September, the company sold 61,390 vehicles inside and outside China.
