Honda to produce batteries, EV motors in China
Honda Motor Co. plans to start producing batteries and electric motors in China next year to reduce the cost of hybrid powered vehicles, reports the China Car Times, a Chinese automotive Web site.
In an interview, Honda China chief Seiji Kuraishi said Honda will produce the batteries with suppliers in Guangzhou, where one of its joint ventures, Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., is headquartered.
Honda and other Japanese automakers are sourcing more components outside Japan to protect themselves from the strong yen. One dollar now is worth less than 77 yen, compared with 85 yen in April.
