Robotic Output to Double to NT$90 B. by 2015

The output value of Taiwan's robotic industry will hit NT$90 billion in 2015, double 2010's value, said Chuo Yung-tsai, chairman of Taiwan Smart Automation and Robot Association, on Aug. 31.

Chuo made the remark during the opening ceremony of Taipei International Automatic Industry Exposition and Taipei International Robotic Show, held at the Nangang exhibition hall of Taipei World Trade Center.

Chou Neng-chuan, deputy director general of the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), the Ministry of Economic Affairs, pointed out that the Executive Yuan (the Cabinet) is expected to approve the development plan for the smart automatic industry by the end of this year, which calls for the input of NT$8.3 billion in five years.

The plan aims to boost the annual output value of Taiwan's smart automation industry to NT$1.73 trillion by 2015, double 2010's NT$865 billion, including NT$90 billion of the robotic industry. At present, Taiwan has 500 robotic firms, with total investment of NT$15 billion.

Chiu Chiu-hui, section chief of IDB, noted that under the smart automatic industry development plan, the MOEA will invest NT$80 million initially to push the establishment of 10 pilot production lines and pilot service systems, mainly in the fields of 3C (computer, communications, and consumer electronics) manufacturing, green industry, health care, and tourism industry.
