DuPont to expand resins plant in Shenzhen
DuPont Co. plans to double the capacity of its plant in Shenzhen that makes resins used to replace metal in underhood components.
James Hay, regional director of Asia Pacific for DuPont's polymers unit, did not disclose the cost of the expansion. He said the plant expansion complements DuPont's recent opening of an automotive technical center in Shanghai.
The Shenzhen plant will produce an additional 10,000 metric tons of Zytel plus an additional 30,000 metric tons of Zytel GRZ nylon resins.
In addition to underhood components, Zytel materials are used in the electronic systems of hybrid and electric vehicles.
U.S.-based DuPont ranks No. 35 on the Automotive News list of the top 100 global suppliers with worldwide original-equipment automotive parts sales of $4 billion in 2009.
