Brilliance China signs JV deal in Benin
Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd. has signed a preliminary agreement to form a partnership to build an assembly plant in Benin, the China Daily, a state-owned newspaper reported.
Brilliance China has formed a 51:49 joint venture with Beijing Runfar Investment Group to build a $46 million (300 million yuan) plant.
The facility will produce 50,000 sedans, minibuses and trucks each year for sale throughout Africa, according to China Daily.
The plant will be located in Cotou, Benin's largest city and a major port in west Africa.
Brilliance China, which is also known as Huachen, formed the China-Africa Huachen investment Co. last June to market vehicles in Africa.
Teng Hexian, the chairman of Beijing Runfar, told China Daily that the partners chose Benin because it "is geographically well positioned and has good ocean transportation facilities, which will help the sale of products to other African countries."
