Sales of Shanghai GM up 33 percent in first quarter
Shanghai General Motors Co. says its sales of Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles in the first quarter increased more than 33 percent year-on-year to 313,651 units.
Strong growth was reported for all three GM brands, according to the company's Web site.
Buick sales surged 36 percent to 165,716 units, while Chevrolet sales rose 28 percent to 141,380 units.
Sales of Cadillac vehicles soared 106 percent to 4,000 units, on robust demand for the Cadillac SRX crossover.
Shanghai GM is a 49:51 joint venture between General Motors Co. and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp.
Despite a strong first quarter, sales of Shanghai GM showed signs of slowing in March.
Last month, combined sales of the Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac brands rose only 17 percent from a year earlier to 101,580 units.
