Geely starts vehicle exports to Australia
Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. has become the second Chinese automaker to export vehicles to Australia, following its domestic rival, Great Wall Motor Co.
In January, Geely sent 100 units of its MK GL compact sedan to John Hughes, a dealer in the western Australian city of Perth, a company spokesman told Automotive News China.
The car, powered by a 1.5-liter engine and a 5-speed manual transmission, has a starting price of 11,990 Australian dollars (79,700 yuan), according to Hughes' Web site.
Great Wall started exporting pickups and SUVs to Australia in 2009, and the Hover SUV has become a leading seller.
Like Great Wall, Geely has made efforts to expand overseas. Geely has assembly plants in Russia, the Ukraine and Indonesia.
