China still major manufacturing base for Motorola after split: Motorola
China's importance for Motorola remains unchanged after the company split into two on Jan. 4, the company said.
Miao Yi, Motorola Mobility China Corporate PR manager, told Xinhua in a written interview China remains Motorola Mobility's largest manufacturing base, its second largest market and its second largest research and development base.
Illinois-based Motorola Inc. has split into two companies - Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions.
Motorola Mobility focuses on consumer-oriented businesses, such as cellphones, while Motorola Solutions focuses on police radios and products for professionals.
Motorola Mobility has a cellphone manufacturing base in north China's Tianjin. The company has around 10,000 employees, making it one of Motorola's largest production bases.
"Our manufacturing facility in Tianjin saw its 300 millionth device roll off the assembly line in December 2010," Miao said.
Since Dec. 2009, Motorola Mobility has released 24 Android models, including the XT800 dual mode device, O-Phone devices and the Ming series.
Motorola came to China in 1987, when it opened a representative office in Beijing.
Motorola sold 9.1 million cellphones, including 3.8 million smart cellphones, in the third quarter of 2010.
