Zhongxing Auto launches construction of an SUV plant
Hebei Zhongxing Auto Co., a small SUV and pickup maker, says it has begun building a SUV plant in central China's Yichang city.
When the plant opens in 2012, it will have an initial production capacity of 100,000 vehicles a year. When the second phase is completed in 2014, the plant will gain an additional 100,000 units of capacity.
Zhongxing's existing assembly plant in the north China city of Baoding can produce up to 100,000 units a year. The automaker also operates complete knockdown (CKD) and semi-knockdown (SKD) plants in Russia, Egypt, Iran and Turkey.
In the first 10 months of this year, Zhongxing sold 51,906 SUVs and pickups, up 47 percent from a year earlier.
