German airbag yarn maker to double production
German airbag yarn maker Polyamide & Polyester High Performance GmbH says it will double Chinese production of nylon yarn for air bags next year.
The company will raise annual production in China to 6,000 tons by the third quarter of 2011, said Frank Leymann, chief representative of Polyamide High Performance Shanghai.
"We are running at full capacity -- we could sell more if we had more," he said.
In 2007, the company launched production in Henan province with joint-venture partner China Shenma Group Co.
Leymann says his company accounts for 30 percent of the yarn used in China to produce 26 million airbags this year. By 2015, China's automakers will install an estimated 55 million airbags in new vehicles.
