SAIC holds JV talks with Fuji, according to reports

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. is holding talks with Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. to consider a possible joint venture to produce Subaru cars in China, the 21st Century Business Herald reported.

The Chinese business news Web site cited an unidentified SAIC executive who was party to the talks.

Subaru does not have any production facilities in China, although it began importing vehicles into that market in 2004. In 2009, sales totaled 35,300 units, and the company expects sales will rise to 50,000 units this year.
