Panasonic plans to dominate solar battery market in China

Japan's Panasonic announced its plan to market solar batteries in China, which means more fierce competition ahead for China's domestic enterprises.

Considering the possibility that sales of consumable electronic products will decline, Panasonic plans to gradually increase the proportion of eco-friendly products to 30 percent of the total sales volume after the acquisition of Sanyo Electric, a leading solar batteries and lithium cells manufacturer.

Other electronic product giants including Sony and Samsung also released similar plans to invest in eco-friendly products, which will press Panasonic to put solar batteries on the Chinese market as soon as possible.

It has been widely accepted that solar batteries, on behalf of the promising photovoltaic industry, is a promising new energy high-tech product.

Zhou Tao, researcher of Great Wall Securities said the alarm bell about overcapacity in the new energy sector is still tolling. The market entry of foreign capital household appliance enterprises will add significant pressure on domestic enterprises.

Suntech Power Holdings is currently the largest domestic solar battery manufacturer in China, which owns 1,000 megawatt capability.

Another domestic high-tech leading group is BYD, which also plans to build a 5,000 megawatt capability solar battery production line in Shanxi province from 2009 to 2015.
