Lifan to build electric vehicles with Chinese Academy of Sciences
Chongqing-based private Chinese automaker Lifan Motors Co. has followed domestic peers in building alternative energy vehicles.

Last week, Lifan unveiled its electric vehicle joint venture with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Shanghai.
The new company, Shanghai CAS Lifan Electric Vehicle Co. has signed up the Shanghai Public Security Bureau as the first fleet client for its electric vehicle, according to information released by Lifan.
The EV, based on the Lifan 620 sedan, will be used as a police vehicle during the World Expo which is scheduled to start in Shanghai in May.
Powered by a 370V 30kW lithium iron phosphate battery pack, the EV has a range of 200km and can reach a top speed of 120 km per hour. It takes 5 to 8 hours to fully charge the battery pack.
