The BYD E6 is an electric-only powered car, the second model of new-energy cars developed by BYD after the F3DM. "The E6 has already passed the national compulsory crash test and is about to enter the mass production stage. It's listing in the MIIT's new automobile admittance catalogue marks that the marketing of the E6 will accelerate. The car is priced at about 300,000 yuan," BYD officials said. Reporters learned that the car will initially be used by the government, utility institutions and taxi companies.

The E6 will not only be introduced to the Chinese domestic market, but will also enter the U.S. market. BYD Company showcased the E6 electric car at the 2010 North American International Auto Show which opened last week. BYD President Wang Chuanfu said the U.S. will be an important market for BYD in the future. Electric cars are a highly competitive product of BYD in opening to the U.S. market and the company plans to sell the E6 in the U.S. during the second half of 2010.

It is worth noting that new energy vehicles are seen most frequently in the new vehicle admittance catalogue released by MIIT. Aside from E6, the Dongfeng Fengshen S30, Chang'an Zhixiang and other new energy cars are also found in the catalogue, indicating that China has improved the promotion of new energy vehicles.
