7 PC makers sued over "Green Dam" software
California-based web-filtering software developer Cybersitter, recently filed a lawsuit for a total of 2.2 billion U.S. dollars to the federal court in Los Angeles, accusing 7 PC makers, Sony, Lenovo, Toshiba, Acer, Asustek, BenQ, and Haier of distributing the "Green Dam" software.
In the controversial "Green Dam" program, the above PC makers have been accused of misappropriating Cybersitter's software codes, allegedly stealing trade secrets, unfair competition, copyright infringement and civil conspiracy.
In response, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Jiang Yu said to domestic and overseas media agencies January 7, "We also recently received relevant question lists from some of the media agencies here and have transferred them to China's IT industry regulator, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Please put forth specific follow-up questions to MIIT. What I want to stress is that the Chinese government highly values and fully respects software intellectual property rights."
