Fuel pump maker expands with Lifan
As Chongqing Lifan Automobile Co. expands its presence in Africa, Iraq and South America, domestic fuel pump supplier SDZ Auto Parts Co. expects to see its sales jump 30 percent in 2010.
This year SDZ became a Tier 1 supplier of fuel pumps for the Lifan 620 sedan. This will be followed next year with the launch of the Lifan 6400, which SDZ will also make the pumps for, according to an executive at the company who requested anonymity. Trial production for the Lifan 6400 has already begun, says the executive.
In 2010 SDZ also expects to start supplying Changan Auto. The supplier has currently submitted the RFQ and is awaiting start of production dates for a new Changan small car to be launched next year.
In 2008, SDZ Auto made 400,000 fuels pumps. In 2009 volume produced has increased to an expected 500,000 units. In 2010 this is expected to jump a further 30 percent, says the executive.
In 2009 sales at SDZ Auto generated 50 million yuan ($7.3 million), up from 40 million yuan ($5.85 million) in 2008. In 2010, the company expects revenue to jump 28 percent.
SDZ Auto also supplies Vietnam's Mekong Auto with fuel pumps.
In 2007, SDZ Auto began supplying technology to a partner in Iraq. The company declined to divulge who the partner is.
Since then Lifan Auto too has had success in Iraq. This year the automaker won a bid to sell its Lifan 520 sedan as taxis in Iraq, exporting its first batch of 140 sedans in October.
In the same month Lifan Auto opened a sales outlet in Laos. Earlier this year, Lifan announced plans to set up an assembly plant in Ethiopia.
Lifan currently has sales networks in Nigeria and Syria. In 2008 it opened Lifan Motors in Venezuela.
