Quanta Computer Hit Record Monthly Revenue in Nov.
Quanta Computer Inc., a global notebook PC contract manufacturer based in Taiwan, recently claimed to have posted in November new monthly revenue record with a 36.6% year-on-year (YoY) increase.
Quanta registered revenue of NT$93.3 billion (about US$2.87 billion) in November, with foreign institutional investors forecasting that the company's 2010 revenue would exceed NT$1 trillion (US$30.77 billion).
The computer maker had accumulated revenue in the first 11 months of NT$700.5 billion (US$21.55 billion), down 4.4% YoY. Foreign institutional investor Credit Suisse estimated that Quanta's 2009 revenue would reach NT$791.2 billion (US$24.3 billion).
Quanta attributed its clear revenue growth in November to increasing shipments of all-in-one (AIO) personal computer (PC) and consumer-electronic products, while blaming the minor notebook PC shipment decline due to supply shortage of key parts for netbooks (mini-note PCs).
In November, Quanta shipped 3.8 million notebook PCs, down 2.5% month-on-month (MoM), but the company said that its fourth-quarter notebook PC shipments would be up 15% to 20% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ).
Quanta's major rival Compal Electronics Inc. is estimated by institutional investors to ship 4.4 million to 4.6 million notebook PCs in November, generating monthly revenue of NT$74 billion to NT$75 billion (US$2.28 billion to US$2.3 billion).
The investors forecasted that Compal's fourth-quarter shipments would grow 20% QoQ to reach 12 million units, leading to shipments of 37.5 million units in 2009.
