Great Wall to assemble vehicles in Bulgaria for European market
Great Wall Motor Co. will start assembling its vehicles in Bulgaria for the European market in 2011, a source at Great Wall's overseas business division told Automotive News China.
Under an agreement Great Wall signed last week with Bulgarian company Litex, the two companies will jointly build a new assembly plant in Lovech of Bulgaria, the source said.
With an annual capacity of 50,000 units, the new plant will start building four models of Great Wall that passed certification for the European Union in early September, he added.
The four models are the Florid and Coolbear sedans, the Hover 5 SUV and the Wingle pickup.
These vehicles will be assembled in the new plant in Lovech and the first batch of assembled vehicles are expected to roll off the production line in the first half of 2011, the source said.
Located in the north China city of Baoding, Great Wall is the first domestic Chinese automaker that has succeeded in certifying its products for the European market.
