HTC posts slight sales revenue for August
The Taiwan-based High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC), a globally leading developer of smartphones, posted sales revenue of NT$11.347 billion (US$348.48 million at US$1: NT$33) for August, slightly up 4.75% from NT$10.832 billion (US$328.24 million) in July but down 10.71% from NT$12.708 billion (US$385.09 million) registered a year earlier, according to the firm.
To achieve a goal of NT$34 billion (US$1.03 billion) for its third-quarter revenue, HTC will have to earn single-month sales revenue of NT$11.9 billion (US$360.6 million) at least in September.
However, institutional investors indicated, the upcoming debut of Touch 2 and HTC Hero series smartphones in Europe and the U.S., respectively, early October, will likely help the firm boost its September sales reach the revenue goal for the third quarter. Hopefully, the firm will even see its revenue hit NT$14 billion (US$424.24 million) in the month.
The firm has projected its annual revenue for 2009 to decline from 2008 due partly to new product delay and partly to underdevelopment of 3G communications in the Chinese market, and will therefore switch its focus of promotion on middle-end smartphones.
In the meantime, the firm hasn't reduced its attention to cooperation with North American telecom service providers, like T-Mobile, who has already promoted two types of Android platform-based smartphones supplied by HTC in the U.S. Sprint Nextel will add HTC's models to its portfolio this year, while Verizon is going to launch HTC's Android phones by the end of the year.
