China's first rapid suburb railway begins construction in Shanghai
China's first rapid suburb railway started construction in Jinshan, Shanghai on August 12. Its operational speed will reach 140 to 160 km/h, only taking half an hour to go from Shanghai South Railway Station to Jinshan.
The railways total length is 56.4 km, from Shanghai South Railway Station to Jinshan. The project is expected to be completed in two years. The line connects nine new stations such as Shanghai South, Xinzhuang, Tinglin, Jinshan and so on, and was jointly funded by the Ministry of Railways and Shanghai Minicipal People's Government. The total investment amounts to 4.8 billion yuan.
