Geely to launch first model under Emgrand sub-brand in August
Geely Holding Group Co. plans to start selling the first model of its newly created Emgrand sub-brand in mid-August.
The new car will be a three box sedan codenamed EC718 and will be built in Geely's plant in the east China port city of Ningbo.
The vehicle will be fitted with 1.5 liter or 1.8 liter sizes of Geely's D-CVVT engine, says Zhang Xiaodong, a spokesperson at Geely.
It will have a starting price of around 80,000 yuan (US$11,713), he adds.
This is higher than Geely's existing models, which are priced between 40,000 yuan ($5,856) and 70,000 yuan ($10,249).
The car is designed by DPECO Co., a Korean auto design and engineering company.
Its parts are being sourced from more than ten international suppliers, according to Zhang. They include Lear Corp, which is making the vehicle's seats, and Robert Bosch GmBH, which is supplying its braking system.
Unveiled at the Shanghai auto show in late April, the Emgrand sub-brand is meant for family use.
A hatchback version of the EC718 will be put on sale later this year, Zhang adds.
