Audi Reports Strong First Half Sales In China

German carmaker Audi AG saw sales during the first half of the year increase 11 percent in China, the company said Monday.

The Ingolstadt-based company, a unit of Volkswagen AG, said it delivered nearly 67,000 cars in the January-June period, its best first-half result ever in the country. The company said it also set a new sales record in June with 13,265 cars sold, a 28 percent increase on the same month a year ago.

"This sales record shows us that we've made the right choices for the Chinese market, and that our model strategy is matched to the tastes of the Chinese customer," said Peter Schwarzenbauer, a board of management member for sales and marketing in Audi's report.

Models including the A4 and A6 sedans -- which the company produces in Changchun -- saw sales increase, as did the Q7 SUV, Audi said.

Audi reports its full first half sales and earnings on July 31, while Volkswagen reports on July 30.

Shares of Audi were trading slightly lower at euro383 ($536.20).
