Nanjing Valeo Clutch Company (NVCC) has expanded the production capacity of its transmission systems facility in China after relocating the facility to a new site in April.
Located in the Jiangning District of Nanjing city in east China's Jiangsu province, the new facility currently houses two plants -- NVCC and Valeo Automotive Transmission Systems (VATS), producing both clutches and torque converters.
NVCC has taken the advantage of global financial crisis, and upgraded its production equipment, production progresses and increased its production capacity, says John Chen, general manager of the division. After the relocation, the clutch plant has almost doubled its annual capacity.
The clutch plant supplies both passenger and commercial vehicle makers in China, which includes
Beijing Hyundai Automobile Co., Chery Automobile Co., Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co., Dongfeng Peugeot Citron Automobile Co., Dongfeng Yueda Kia Automobile Co., FAW-VW Automobile Co., and Shanghai Volkswagen Automobile Co.
The torque converter plant started operation in March 2008. It is now capable of producing 300,000 sets a year with reserved ability to continue to grow if needed.
At present, the converter plant supplies General Motors' operations both inside and outside China, according to Chen.
"We supply the converters to Shanghai GM and GM's plants in Mexico," he adds.
Says Chen, "Thanks to a series of tax incentives the government has enacted, my projection is that China's auto market will grow moderately this year."
