Impacted by the global recession and seasonal factors, Quanta, the world's largest maker of NB PCs, saw lackluster sales 
in the first two months of this year. But, thanks to retail market recovery, Quanta shipped 2.7 million NB PCs to improve revenue to NT$63.379 billion (US$1.81 billion at US$1: NT$35) in March, sharply up 27.9% from February but still 16.5% less than last March. In total, the firm shipped 6.9 million units in the first quarter, down 30% from a quarter earlier.

 

Institutional investors indicated that Quanta is expected to see continued brisk sales into April and May, with contract orders from HP and Acer to boost its shipments in the second quarter.

 

Wistron, the third-biggest NB PC maker globally, scored revenue of NT$46.049 billion (US$1.32 billion) in March, surging 40.3% from a month earlier and 31.34% from a year earlier. The solid revenue growth, institutional investors noted, are contributable to an influx of orders from Lenovo and Acer. The firm shipped 2.2 million NB PCs in March.

 

With consumer demand recovering, Invente Corp., world's No. 4 NB PC supplier, raked in NT$33.913 billion (US$969 million) in revenue in March, up 10.6% from a month earlier and surging 55.4% from a year earlier. Despite the global economic downturn, the firm still drove up its aggregate revenue for the first three months by an annual 35.53% to NT$89.485 billion (US$2.56 billion).
