International provider logistics services Longwin has agreed to join forces with Finnish partner Wikestrom & Krogius to establish and operate a state-of-the-art supply chain center for the Wartsila Corporation in Shanghai.

International provider logistics services Longwin has agreed to join forces with Finnish partner Wikestrom & Krogius to establish and operate a state-of-the-art supply chain center for the Wartsila Corporation in Shanghai.

Under the terms of the agreement, Logwin in partnership with its international forwarding agent, Wikestrom & Krogius, has won a five year contract to provide logistical and operational services for Finland-based Wartsila, including the management, transportation and distribution of approximately 70,000 tonnes of power-related cargo per annum from the client's Shanghai hub annually to destinations in Europe.

Wartsila services customers in the marine and energy markets by providing them with complete lifecycle energy solutions, including assistance with the construction, operation, performance and maintenance of power plants.

Given the increase in power-related components originating from China, Logwin has assisted Wartsila in the development and completion of a 3,100 square metre facility that will equip the company with comprehensive logistics services ranges from quality inspections, local warehousing, packaging, shipment consolidations and distribution capabilities.

The facility, which comprises a dedicated 1,868 square metre docking area, a 766 square metre quality control inspection workshop, and a 466 square metre purpose-built office, will help the company set new standards in customer delivery by expediting the accuracy and processing of orders.

The new center will enable Wartsila to consolidate goods from multiple suppliers in China, including quality control and inspection of goods on their arrival at the centre to the repackaging of the cargo into full container loads for shipment to Finland, Italy, and other European destinations.

Logwin's partnership's responsibilities will also comprise the provision of specialized logistical services that entails the management of the 1,868 square metre cross docking area where goods are recovered, opened, sorted, tallied and re-packed.

Logwin has been servicing the maritime industry for 20 years and has built a strong brand based on knowing the customers. The announcement of the Wartsila contract follows hot on the heels of the launch of 'Logwin Boat' IT platform, which is especially designed to offer customers, such as those in the ship building business with sophisticated supplier networks, an integrated and transparent service package that supports the punctual delivery of components and spare parts.

As part of this offering, Logwin can help to streamline a customer's supply chain by assuming responsibility for all aspects of the delivery process from the transportation, interim storage, consolidation and transit processing of urgently needed accessories.

An additional value add of the service also includes helping to address customs formalities on behalf of customers, thus ensuring that any special components and supply parts arrive on time, in a good condition and in the most cost-effective manner.
