Shanghai General Motors Company (Shanghai GM) announced that the vehicle safety lab of the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center Company (PATAC), with an investment of 150 million yuan, was recently completed and put into operation. The laboratory has attracted the largest investment of any complete vehicle safety research and development facility in China.
The PATAC vehicle safety lab is composed of a complete vehicle safety laboratory, a trolley safety laboratory and a subsystem safety laboratory. All three major laboratories were built according to General Motors Corporation (GM)’s global standards. It is equipped with advanced facilities, including vehicles for crash tests, that conform to the mainstream safety and development rules of countries and regions such as China, the US, Europe and Japan.
Shanghai GM’s General Manager Ding Lei said this investment will provide reliable guarantees to the development of mass-production models in China as well as subsequent complete vehicle development. James Queen, Shanghai GM’s new vice president for global product research and development, made a statement in Shanghai, saying that GM will make use of its global competitive resources to support Shanghai GM and PATAC in enhancing and improving their local development capabilities. In the future, GM will introduce a brand-new 1.6-liter turbocharged engine to China.
