Suppliers shun auto show as downturn hits budgets
The global economic slowdown and pressure to curb spending has led some global suppliers to scrap plans to participate in the Shanghai auto show in April.
The global economic slowdown and pressure to curb spending has led some global suppliers to scrap plans to participate in the Shanghai auto show in April.
Suppliers Magna International Inc., ArvinMeritor Inc., American Axle & Manufacturing, Delphi Corp., GKN Plc., Johnson Controls Inc., and TRW Automotive say they will not participate in the show.
"We have reduced the number of trade shows we are participating in around the world. The Shanghai motor show is one we decided not to participate in," says ArvinMeritor Inc. in a statement to Automotive News China.
Delphi says: "We plan and intend to come back as participant and exhibitor in the future."
But others. such as Visteon Corp. Bosch (China) Investment Ltd. and BorgWarner Inc., will participate.
Mahle Technologies Holding (China) Co. says: "Yes, we will participate. In China we still see growth. But our display will be on a smaller scale than previously. Participants from our head office will also be limited."
The first press day of Auto Shanghai 2009 is April 20.
