AQSIQ: Nearly 140,000 Cars Recalled In Past Two Months

There were seven car recalls in China in the past two months involving a total of up to 140,000 cars.

Statistics from the Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine show that there were seven car recalls in the past two months involving a total of up to 140,000 cars.

According to AQSIQ, Jaguar China is the first car manufacturer to announce a car recall. The company is currently recalling some of the Jaguar XF cars produced between October 21, 2007 and March 11, 2008 which are said to have hidden problems at the instrument panel that may cause a loss of warning signal. It is reported that a total of 87 of these cars were sold in China.

Following Jaguar China, Subaru China announced that it would recall from some of its Tribeca cars which were produced between February 18, 2008 and April 29, 2008, and between May 22, 2008 and November 26, 2008. It is said that a total of 1,135 Tribeca cars that had been equipped with a revered acceleration sensor were sold in Chinese market.

On January 23, 2009, South East Motor from China's Fujian province announced it was recalling 3,630 additional Gelan cars as a result of prolonging the model manufacturer run from the previously planned period of November 2, 2006 to April 3, 2007 to November 24, 2007. It is reported that the company enlarged the scale of recall because of the use of a contaminated motor adjustor chip as a result of the inadequate materials management by one of its suppliers.

In addition, Mitsubishi Motors, Toyota, Daimler, and Maserati also recalled cars in December last year.
