According to reports from Brazilian media, the leading Chinese PC manufacturer Lenovo (LNVGY) is thinking about acquiring Brazil's largest PC maker Positivo.

Another PC giant Dell also has the same goal and Dell has reportedly provided a plan to Positivo, in which the company offers the price for the acquisition. Insiders from Lenovo in China say they know nothing about the news and no comment is available.

Brazilian newspaper Estado de S. Paulo previously reported that the high level executives from Lenovo recently visited Positivo's headquarters in Curitiba, a southwest city in Brazil, and showed great interest in the acquisition of Positivo. Before that, Lenovo's CFO Huang Weiming said that affected by the financial crisis, the market value of many companies decreased significantly. Lenovo hopes to take the opportunity and enhance its market by implementing acquisitions. Huang said Lenovo will acquire some companies, but they will make conservative and rational evaluations about the risks of these acquisitions.

According to the statistics provided by the International Data Corporation, as the largest PC maker in Brazil, Positivo occupied 57% market share in Brazil's notebook market in the third quarter of 2007 while its retail business accounted for 21.4% of the country's computer market in the third quarter of 2008. However, affected by the global financial crisis, Positivo's market value dropped to about CNY1.157 billion over the past three quarters.
