China's new energy surges to meet green commitment

China's installed solar power capacity has reached 320 million kilowatts as of the end of February, up 22.7 percent year-on-year as the country has stayed committed to low-carbon development, the National Energy Administration said on Monday.

From January to February, investment in the country's solar power generation reached 9.4 billion yuan ($1.48 billion), up 153.7 percent year-on-year.

In the same period, investment in power grid projects reached 31.3 billion yuan, up 37.6 percent year-on-year.

In February alone, China's electricity consumption increased 16.9 percent to reach 623.5 billion kilowatt-hours, among which tertiary industry's electricity consumption increased 17.4 percent.

China aims to initially build a unified electricity market system by 2025 to enable optimized power resource allocation in a wider scope and improve the stability and flexibility of the power system, Xinhua reported in January.
