Ford slump continues with Oct. sales off 45%

Ford Motor Co.’s China sales, exacerbated by a lack of new models, continue to fall, with October volume plummeting 45 percent to 58,204.

Combined deliveries at Ford’s two joint ventures -- Changan Ford Automobile Co. and Jiangling Motors Corp. -- plunged 47 percent to 53,451 last month.

Changan Ford produces and markets Ford-badged passenger vehicles, while Jiangling Motors builds and distributes trucks for both Ford and JMC brands.

Ford didn’t disclose sales figures for each of the two partnerships.

Lincoln, which sells imported vehicles in China, saw October sales dip 6 percent to 4,753.

In the first ten months of the year, Ford’s China sales dropped 31 percent to 642,593. During the 10-month period, aggregate deliveries at Changan Ford and Jiangling Motors fell 33 percent to 598,224, but Lincoln sales rose 3 percent to 44,369.

Ford launched sales of the redesigned Ford Focus and Escort sedans in China this month.

The U.S. automaker is set to launch sales of a key, all-new model early next year after a lull of several years: The Territory is the first entry-level, midsize SUV the Ford brand has developed for China.

Ford is banking on the Territory, Focus and Escort to help reverse its prolonged sales slump in China.
