VW brand sales slump for 4th straight month
Volkswagen brand's China deliveries fell 11 percent from a year earlier to 277,800 in September, the German marque's fourth straight -- and steepest -- monthly sales decline.
The brand blamed last month's slide on the escalating trade dispute between the U.S. and China.
“This has resulted in considerable reluctance on the part of purchasers throughout the market,” VW brand said of the trade friction.
The brand’s most recent monthly sales increase was a 4.1 percent year-on-year gain in May. Since then, deliveries have tumbled 1.7 percent in June, 2.4 percent in July and 3.2 percent in August.
Through September, VW brand’s China deliveries totaled 2,241,300, a 1.9 percent increase from the same period last year.
