Honeywell and Linuo Paradigma Launch First Solar Energy Water Heater Using Enovate(R) Blowing Agent
Adoption comes amid phaseout of ozone-depleting substances worldwide
MORRISTOWN, N.J. and JINAN, China, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that Shandong Linuo Paradigma Co., Ltd, one of the largest solar energy water heater manufacturers in China, will use Honeywell's Enovate(R) blowing agent to improve the performance of foam insulation. It marks the first such application of Enovate.

Honeywell Enovate is a non ozone-depleting hydrofluorocarbon that allows rigid, closed-cell insulation to expand. The liquid blowing agent stays resident and provides superior insulating properties. Researchers from both Honeywell and Linuo Paradigma jointly developed this latest Enovate application as the phaseout of ozone-depleting substances such as CFCs continues worldwide. The phaseout is driven by the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.
"We are committed to providing equipment manufacturers viable alternatives," said Richard Preziotti, vice president and general manager of Honeywell's Fluorine Products business. "Our patented blowing agent meets this challenge and already is used for a number of insulation applications, including walls and roofing, transport containers and refrigerators."
"Using Enovate allows us to be more environmentally preferable while improving the insulation performance of our green energy product," said Shen Wenming, general manager of Shandong Linuo Paradigma Co., Ltd. "It will not only encourage demand for new technology and materials from China's solar energy industry, but also improve China's overall image when it comes to environment protection."
China is the largest manufacturing and consumption market for solar energy water heaters in the world, according to China Solar Energy Association. These units, commonly called solar domestic hot water systems, normally include well-insulated storage tanks as well as solar collectors.
Currently, most Chinese solar energy equipment manufacturers use CFCs as a blowing agent. China will cease production of CFC substances beginning July 1, 2007, according to the State Environment Protection Administration of China.
Closed-cell spray foam insulation also is used for residential wall and commercial roofing applications. The material offers homes reduced air infiltration, better moisture and condensation control, better structural integrity and less energy usage for heating and cooling. Spray foam roofing reduces installation time and cost, decreases heating and cooling expenses and enhances wind uplift resistance.
