Toyota adds production line with GAC
GAC Toyota Motor Co. this week launched a third production line at its assembly plant in the south China city of Guangzhou.
The new line initially will assemble up to 100,000 vehicles a year, raising GAC Toyota’s annual production capacity to 500,000 vehicles.
If needed, the line’s annual output can be raised to 200,000 vehicles, GAC Toyota said.
Last year, Toyota’s China sales rose 6.2 percent from a year earlier to 1.29 million vehicles. Of that volume, roughly 440,000 vehicles were generated by Toyota’s joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co.
Toyota also has a joint venture with China FAW Group Corp., which can produce up to 680,000 vehicles a year.
This year, GAC Toyota wants to boost annual sales to 500,000 vehicles.
