Saleen Auto plans high-performance vehicle output in China
Saleen Automotive Inc., a California-based specialty manufacturer of high-performance cars, plans to assemble vehicles in Rugao in east China’s Jiangsu province.
The 6 billion yuan ($900 million) plant will have capacity to build up to 150,000 vehicles a year, Wang Xiaolin, CEO of Jiangsu Saleen Automotive Technology Co. said at a press conference in Shanghai last week.
Jiangsu Saleen, incorporated in Rugao, is a joint venture between Saleen Automotive and several local companies in Rugao.
The plant will be completed in June and its first product will be the Saleen S1 sports car. The car is powered by a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine.
Saleen also will build plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicles in the Rugao plant, according to Wang.
Steve Saleen, founder of Saleen Automotive, was also on hand at the press conference.
