GM October sales climb 11% despite weak minibus demand
General Motors delivered 382,723 vehicles in China in October, an 11 percent increase from a year earlier. Strong sales growth by Baojun, Cadillac and Chevrolet offset lower minibus sales by Wuling.
For the month, Baojun sales surged 56 percent to 104,755 vehicles on volumes of the 510 crossover and 310 wagon.
Cadillac deliveries jumped 36 percent to 17,018 vehicles on demand for the XT5 crossover, long-wheelbase XTS sedan and CT6 sedan.
Chevrolet sales advanced 17 percent to 61,065 vehicles, led by the Malibu and Cavalier sedans. Buick deliveries also increased 2.1 percent to 107,297 vehicles.
But sales of Wuling, China’s largest minibus brand, dropped 15 percent to 92,588 vehicles as the entry-level segment continued its long-term decline.
Strong results in October have helped GM recover from a slow start early this year. For the first 10 months, GM’s China sales rose 2.2 percent to 3.13 million vehicles.
