SAIC starts assembling vehicles in Zhengzhou
SAIC Motor Corp. on Thursday began assembling vehicles for its proprietary Roewe and MG brands in the north China city of Zhengzhou.
After reaching full capacity, the Zhengzhou plant will build as many as 400,000 vehicles annually.
The factory will enable SAIC to expand production to meet robust demand for Roewe and MG vehicles across China.
According to SAIC, the plant’s first product is the Roewe RX3 compact crossover. The vehicle will go on sale in November.
SAIC also assembles vehicles for its Roewe and MG brands in Shanghai and in the east China city of Nanjing. The two plants combined produce as many as 400,000 vehicles annually.
For the first eight months, total deliveries of the two brands were 311,358 vehicles, double the number sold in the same period last year.
SAIC, headquartered in Shanghai, has joint ventures with General Motors and the Volkswagen Group.
