Dongfeng-PSA slump drags on
Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co. continues to lose market share at a rapid pace with July China sales falling 38 percent year on year to 21,104 vehicles.
Through July, deliveries at the company, a partnership between China’s Dongfeng Motor Corp. and PSA Peugeot Citroen, plunged 47 percent from a year earlier to 168,933 vehicles, according to Dongfeng.
Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen, based in the central China city of Wuhan, makes Peugeot and Citroen cars and light trucks.
July sales at PSA’s joint venture with China’s Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. have not been released.
Changan PSA, located in the south China city of Shenzhen, builds Citroen DS models -- the DS 4S, DS 5, DS 6 and DS 7.
In the first six months, Changan PSA’s sales tumbled 64 percent year on year to only 3,157 vehicles, according to Changan.
To reverse the slump in China sales, PSA needs more drastic cost cuts and new crossover and SUV models, CEO Carlos Tavares told the press at the Shanghai auto show in April.
