China's vehicle exports maintain robust growth
Exports of cars and trucks from China have continued to grow rapidly, rising 19 percent year on year to around 81,000 vehicles in June, on demand from other emerging markets.
In June, China's passenger vehicle exports surged 26 percent to roughly 54,000 vehicles, while shipments of commercial vehicles increased 7.2 percent to approach 27,000 vehicles, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
For the first six months, China’s vehicle exports jumped 26 percent from a year earlier to approximately 396,000. The number includes roughly 273,000 passenger vehicles and 123,000 commercial vehicles.
Most domestic Chinese brands have posted robust exports this year.
Chery Automobile Co., China’s largest passenger vehicle exporter, shipped 10,017 vehicles overseas in June, surging 57 percent year on year. Through June, the company’s exports soared 62 percent to approach 54,000 vehicles.
China’s vehicle exports will get a lift from General Motors and Volvo Car Corp. which are expanding exports from their China plants.
After beginning to export its China-built Buick Envision crossover to the United States in early 2016, GM started shipping 1,701 Chevrolet Cavalier compact sedans to Mexico in July.
Volvo, which began shipping Chinese-built S60 sedans to the U.S. in 2015, started exporting its S90 flagship sedan to the U.S. and Europe this year. The Swedish car brand is now owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co.
