BAIC doubles EV capacity to 300,000 vehicles
BAIC Motor Corp. says it completed an expansion of its electric vehicle assembly plant in Beijing this month, doubling annual production capacity to 300,000 units.
Among China's state-owned automakers, BAIC has maintained the most aggressive EV development program, with a focus on battery-electric vehicles.
The company’s EV portfolio includes eight compact sedans and one compact crossover.
In the first six months, BAIC sold 30,154 EVs, up 99 percent from the same period last year, according to the China Passenger Vehicle Alliance, a Shanghai-based consultancy.
Despite rising deliveries, BAIC may have difficulty achieving its annual EV sales target of 170,000 vehicles this year.
BAIC, headquartered in Beijing, has joint ventures with Daimler AG and Hyundai Motor Co.
