Qualcomm to supply infotainment chip for Geely lineup
Qualcomm Technologies Inc. will supply its Snapdragon computer chip to Geely Auto Group to power the automaker’s next generation of infotainment systems.
Geely will deploy the technology in 2020, according to a statement issued by Qualcomm, a U.S. supplier.
The automaker will use Snapdragon with future generations of its iNTEC telematics system. The technology package includes the G-Netlink system, which allows drivers to interact with their vehicles by using smartphone apps, and also Geely’s G-Pilot driver assistant technology.
Qualcomm will help Geely “provide consumers with the cutting-edge infotainment and connected car experiences they demand, thanks to the high-performance processing and superior connectivity delivered by Snapdragon automotive platforms,” said Feng Qing Feng, Geely’s chief technology officer.
The deal with Qualcomm highlights Geely’s desire to provide cutting-edge technology for its next generation of vehicles such as Lynk & CO., its new upscale premium brand.
Over the past year, the company has enjoyed big sales gains after introducing a wave of new crossovers.
Through May, Geely's sales totaled 441,854 vehicles, up 89 percent from the same period in 2016. The company aims to sell 1 million vehicles this year, up 32 percent from 2016.
Geely, headquartered in the east China city of Hangzhou, is listed in Hong Kong. Its parent, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., also owns Volvo Car Corp.
